The Company

TimTim Bell – Artistic Director
Tim trained as an actor at Webber Douglas. In 2008 he bumped into Harry Long in a rusty old tour bus and they, along with 3 friends, decided to form Shanty Theatre. Since then he’s appeared in Smugglers, written for Rebel Harbour and Griselda’s Grandad, directed for Salty Socks, A Rat’s Tale, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, The Story Giant and Holy Mackerel, and has made tea for most of the bits in between. Other companies have been foolish enough to let him direct their shows too, most notably the egg, Eastern Angles, Theatre Royal Plymouth and Wassail. As an actor, Tim was Joseph in Eastern Angles’ Cuckoo Teapot, the Hairy Scary Diary Fairy in BBC 2’s The Mighty Truck of Stuff, Thomas, the dim-witted Norfolk butler in Sky Arts’ She Stoops to Conquer and has never ever ever appeared in The Bill. Or Casualty. He has most recently been seen as the eponymous hero in havoc’s Dame Nature: The Magnificent Bearded Lady. He’s Incubator Creative Producer at the egg in Bath. Tim is a dedicated cricket fan and an East Anglian separatist.

HarryHarry Long – Artistic Director
Harry trained as an actor at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Since the company’s earliest shenanigans he has written, directed, produced and appeared in Shanty shows. Outside Shanty he continues to work as an actor by night, most recently appearing in Trevor Nunn’s production of Fatal Attraction, whilst continuing to work for Shanty during days, intervals, and any brief off stage moments when he thinks he won’t get caught. He mainly went into theatre for the money and the attention he gets from it, but has finally begun to develop a love of the rigours of small scale touring.
